Troubleshooting

It’s all about downtime. Whether you have a persistent problem or a critical stoppage, CFC-Solar can provide your organization with world-class fluid power troubleshooting service to get you up and running. CFC-Solar’s troubleshooting consultants are internationally recognized and are the same experts that teach our troubleshooting courses. Not only can we get your system back up quickly, we will instruct your personnel on why the system failed and offer advice and ideas on how to prevent such breakdowns in the future.

The following cases illustrate various types of troubleshooting services we have provided:

Case #1- Deep sea oil spar
A CFC-Solar consultant was called in to supervise personnel on initiating Denison pumps that were critical to the operation of a deep-sea oil spar. Initially the pumps were not set correctly, which caused problems with ballast stabilization and prohibited deployment of the spar. Spar was subsequently successfully launched into the Gulf of Mexico.

Case #2- Bridge building equipment
A bridge building machine became inoperable during construction of a bridge between islands off the coast of Thailand. A CFC-Solar consultant was called in and, within the first morning, identified the problem (faulty check valve), which was immediately fixed.

Case #3- Tunnel boring machine
A 16-ft diameter tunnel-boring machine that was being used in the Chicago area developed intermittent operating problems. After several attempts to diagnose the problem with local help, a CFC-Solar consultant was called in and correctly identified the problem as the hydrostatic drive; subsequently, he fixed the error.

Case #4- Zoo doors
Hydraulically operated doors at a major zoo were malfunctioning. After several attempts to diagnose the problem on their own, CFC-Solar was called in and correctly identified the problem as a design flaw that was corrected with a redesign.

Case #5- Panama Canal
A CFC-Solar consultant was called in to advise Panama Canal personnel on how to restore to working condition, hydraulically operated equipment that had gone unused for more than 50+ years.

Case #6- Steel coating firm
A newer high-tech steel coating firm was experiencing difficulty in production. CFC-Solar consultants identified both a design problem in the rolling machines and blown seals in a walking beam device.

Many of the failures in mechanical and hydraulic systems show similar symptoms and it often takes skilled individuals to correctly identify the problems. Improperly diagnosing a problem can often lead to additional cost and safety hazards. If your maintenance personnel are stumped by your equipment performance problems or you simply want some verification of your analysis, we can help!
